Food Flicks in February Film Festival ~ Tortilla Soup United States, 103 min.

Semi-retired, Mexican-American chef Martin Naranjo shares a suburban Los Angeles home with his three adult daughters. Although he has lost the senses of taste and smell since his wife's death, he still cooks elaborate, multi-course meals for his family and friends.

Food Flicks in February Film Festival ~ Tampopo Japan, 115 min.

This Japanese film is a satiric comedy about noodles -- about their making, cooking, serving and consumption. It's about people who take noodles seriously.

A Walk to Beautiful ~ Film Screening

A screening of the Emmy winning documentary shown at last year’s Family of Women Film Festival, presented in conjunction with the February 24th talk by Dr. Hailegiorgi Avtenfisu, an integral figure in the film. Part of the UNFPA Feb 26 - 28.

 

Thursday, February 18th ~ 6pm

What's on Your Plate ~ Film Screening

Producer Catherine Gund will be on hand for the screening of this documentary in which the well-trodden terrain of food politics is taken on, this time from the point of view of two 11 year olds. Q & A to follow. Sponsored by Idaho’s Bounty

Food Flicks in February Film Festival ~ Like Water for Chocolate Mexico, 123 min.

Beautifully executed in the Latin storytelling tradition of magic realism, this internationally popular romantic fable from Mexico centers on a young woman who discovers that her cooking has magical effects.
